Pandav Falls, the “Indian Grand Canyon”

4-8-kajuraho-falls

The locals proudly refer to the waterfall 18 km outside Kajuraho as the “Indian Grand Canyon”. Normally it should still be flowing quite strongly in September, across a width of approx. 800 meters, but due to low monsun rainfalls over the past 3 years it was reduced to the 30 and 60 meter main falls. In 2005 however the water level rose some 2 meters above the level where we are positioned in the photo - an incredible amount of water that rushed down from the mountains some 125 km away, and further onward up until joining the Ganges.
